Homecoming Hairstyles

Throughout the past several years, girls tend to look for homecoming hairstyles that are traditional and that offer them a sophisticated look. The most popular of these homecoming hairstyles is the “up-do”. Many stylists may offer their advice regarding your hair type and facial structure. Stylist’s may opt to braid, curl, tie, knot, or pin the hair in place. Variations of the up-do may incorporate hairpieces and hair accessories. Some girl’s may like to wear rhinestones and jewels to add glimmer and shine under the lights. Other girls may find themselves opting for up-dos that have sweeping and flowing locks. If you’re saying to yourself that your hair is too short for an up-do, never fear; hair extensions and hair pieces offer even the shortest of trends this up-do option.

One important factor to consider when contemplating the up-do is your facial structure. If your facial structure is round or square; wear your up-do high on the crown to elongate your face; if your face is thin and more rectangular; opt for homecoming hairstyles that are fuller on the sides and lack crown height. Depending upon your forehead height, you may wish to wear bangs. Girls that have longer foreheads need bangs; those with shorter foreheads may wish to wear their hair pulled completely back off the face.

Many girls find themselves thumbing through magazines and looking on web sites to find options for homecoming hairstyles. Some of the more popular web sites offer virtual styling; simply choose your facial structure, the length of your current hairstyle and click on different up-dos that fit. However, to ensure that a homecoming hairstyle is really right for you; you may want to visit the salon prior to the special event. There’s nothing like a “trial run” to ensure you that the choice you made was for the best.

Tuxedo Styles

A complete tuxedo ensemble includes a jacket, trousers, shirt, bow tie, cuff links, studs, and a cummerbund or vest. If you wear a vest, you do not wear a cummerbund. I would suggest purchasing extra ties and cummerbunds in colors and patterns for a more festive look for any occasion.

Your classic tuxedo, of course, is black but you have several collar options from which to choose. You have the notch lapel tuxedo jacket, the peak lapel tuxedo jacket, the shawl lapel tuxedo jacket, and the mandarin color tuxedo jacket. Personally I prefer the classic notch lapel tuxedo jacket but it really is a matter of choice. The shawl lapel gives the body an elongated look so it has a slenderizing affect.

You then have the trousers in pleated and non-pleated with an adjustable or non-adjustable waist band, all with a satin stripe down the legs.

There is a great selection of tuxedo shirts available. You have the classic wing collar tuxedo shirt, regular collar tuxedo shirt, mandarin collar tuxedo shirt, banded mandarin collar tuxedo shirt, piped mandarin collar tuxedo shirt and the list goes on and on.

The accessories are endless. You have the band bow tie or one of the newer contemporary style ties, the cummerbund or button cover jewelry if you choose one of the mandarin collar shirts. And, of course, the studs and cuff links. Don’t forget to take a look at the tuxedo vests. All accessories will be available in an array of colors, patterns and styles. You’re sure to find what you need to complete your ensemble.

New Exciting Eyewear

Whether you wear fashion eyewear or discount eyewear there is a pair of eye glasses to suit your face shape, personality and lifestyle. Never have there been more eyewear styles, designs and colors than there are today.

Modern technology has given us an endless variety of sport eyewear and sports specific eyewear to protect our eyes and enhance our sporting activities. With sport eyewear available to offer superior quality optics, elimination of fogging, maximum fields of vision and elimination of reflection the choices have never been better.

There are sport specific eyewear and eyewear lenses for the golfer, cyclist, mountain climber, skier, snow boarder, driver and tennis player. Sport eyewear is best known for the optical quality and visual enhancement of the lenses. One example of the innovative sports specific eyewear is the yellow enhancement of eyewear lenses that can be helpful in tennis where the tennis balls are most often yellow. Amber or rose lenses enhance soft grays that mark the shadows on a ski slope. It is very important to wear the correct protective eyewear when participating in sports, to ensure you see properly and your eyes are protected.

There are a variety of safety eyewear options available to be used at both home and work where there may be small airborne particles that can get into the eyes.

Safety eyewear may be worn when using lathes, saws, sanders and other power tools. Safety eyewear should cover the front of your eyes and the sides and top of your eyes so that particles will not get into the eyes and cause damage. Safety eyewear with polycarbonate lenses (impact resistant) are an excellent idea.

Shopping for children’s eyewear can be an overwhelming task given all the choices available combined with wanting to find something your child will want to wear while at the same time being long lasting. Most children need eyewear for nearsightedness or farsightedness and will either have to wear their eyewear on a part time or full time basis (this will be established by your eye care practitioner). Children’s eyewear can be found in a wide variety of designs, styles and colors with several designer styles similar to the adult versions. Both plastic and metal eyewear frames can offer durability that will keep up to your child’s demands. Spring hinges that allow for flexibility at the temple and polycarbonate (impact resistant) lenses are also great choices for children’s eyewear. It’s a good idea to let your child participate in selecting their eyewear, this way they are more likely to wear their eyewear. It’s also wise to stay clear of fads that will quickly become outdated and of course you’ll want to make sure your child’s eyewear fits properly and comfortably.

One type of eyewear that we often forget about is that of specialty eyewear. Specialty eyewear can include computer eyewear, reading eyewear, driving eyewear, sport eyewear, protective eyewear and safety eyewear. Some of the specific uses of specialty eyewear can include; computer eyewear lenses are designed specifically for the close distance associated with the computer; sport eyewear can give increased enjoyment and protection during sports while helping to better see the lines in a golf course or tennis balls; safety eyewear can give protection from dust and glare; eyewear for hobbies such as beading, needlepoint and crafting helps the eyes as your spending a lot of time at close distances.

Where you will purchase your eyewear will most likely be a matter of personal choice based on factors such as time, convenience and eyewear knowledge. Before you make any eyewear purchases you’ll want to of course visit your eye care practitioner for any necessary eye prescriptions and it also helps to know what styles look best on you. A visit to an eyewear shop can allow you to try on a variety of designs and styles with the help of a knowledgeable salesperson. After you have your eye prescription and know what styles look best you are free to purchase eyewear from the multitude of online eyewear sites. Choose from many of our featured merchants that we have screened for you. Discount eyewear sites offer a wide selection of brand name eyewear, designer eyewear, fashion eyewear, sport eyewear, children’s eyewear and prescription eyewear at discount prices. Before making any eyewear purchases make sure the site is reputable.

Clip Earrings

Clip earrings are seldom uncomfortable, and even if one is not accustomed to wearing them, they are easy to get used to. These jewelry items are clasped onto the earlobe, then worn like regular pierced earrings. The clips are often strong, so they don’t blow away with the wind or get knocked into the nearest sewer drain while the wearer is casually walking down the street. They are also very convenient; easy to slip on or off in a pinch.

Various materials are used to make this user-friendly and fashionable item. From inexpensive plastic to costly gemstones, they also come in a great variety of designs from which to choose. Clip earrings are an excellent alternative to costume jewelry — that is, stuff you’re going to wear once, and then again only during the next blue moon. Jewelry to wear onstage, and only at specific productions, is an example of this. This might be especially attractive to people who seldom wear earrings, but are drawn by the thought of wearing earrings during special occasions. There is then no need for ear piercings, when such a stylish accessory is already at hand.

Children may also prefer clip earrings as these accessories are enjoyable to wear and to collect. Clip earrings are good for mixing and matching, for swapping and other fun activities. Even if one’s ears are already pierced, clip earrings should still be considered — they may come with uses and “looks” that will pleasantly surprise any person.

Ideal Wallet For Dad

The Family Man

He held your hand when you first learnt to walk. He heard you utter your first word. He accompanied you on your first day of school. And of course, he attended your graduation ceremony.

For the nurturing Family Man, get him a wallet that can hold a nice family photo. This should put a smile on his face every time he opens his wallet.

If you’re prepared to splurge, you may want to consider a billfold wallet by Lanvin. It has a generous clear photo window that should make any family photo look great.

The $280 price tag may be daunting but you’re really paying a premium for superb French craftsmanship. And the Lanvin label, of course.

The Over-Indulgent Dad

He’s largely responsible for the spoilt brat you’ve become. In his eyes, you can do nothing wrong even if you burn down the house. He spends all his energies ensuring that you’re provided for, making sure that you’re protected from the harsh realities of the outside world.

Father’s Day should be a good time for you to pay your dues and spoil your Over-Indulgent Dad. Pamper him with a luxurious lambskin wallet by Montblanc. This wallet is held in such high regard that Montblanc calls it Cashmere in Leather.

Your daddy will probably feel really guilty that you got him such an expensive present and buy you a brand new convertible to make it up to you.

The Giant

He’s feared and respected by many, including you. Most people envy you for having a father who’s somewhat larger than life. But the pressure of living up to his expectations or filling his shoes can sometimes be overwhelming. Not everyone is born an alpha male.

For the Giant, get him a credit card wallet from Cartier’s prestigious Pasha de Cartier line. Made in France using top grade cowhide, it looks sleek and stylish, oozing confidence and charisma just like its soon-to-be owner.

Handbags Style

Personally, I require a daily handbag large enough to fit a book (because you never know where you’re going to surprisingly end up stuck with nothing to do). However, I also like to have a handbag that I can wear on my shoulder to a formal event, not a bag that looks like an everyday handbag–but something with a little class and elegance. I have even bought handbags in sizes in between, because they were nice-looking or more professional looking (and still large enough to squeeze a small paperback into).

The most famous designer handbags are always the impressive and most expensive handbags, however they are virtually always the highest quality handbags as well. If you need a high quality handbag, and you have the means, designs handbags are well made, high quality and therefore long lasting. On the other hand, also many imitation designer handbags, these handbags look great and can last as long as the designer handbags of which they are knockoffs. Thus, when you choose an imitation designer handbag, you will save money and loose nothing but that tiny, designer brand-name label.

If you want many types of handbags for different, occasions, as I do, you may want to look out for regular handbags that are also well made, cheaper, and made in a plethora of different, attractive designs. It has been said that a woman’s handbag should always match her shoes. But with more generic or inexpensive handbags, because there are many more designs to choose from than even designer handbag companies can offer, you can even purchase handbags that will match your entire outfit perfectly–not just your shoes–this gives you a very impressive overall look.

A great way to purchase handbags is online. You can view everything from designs handbags to discount handbags right from the convenience of your own home. Do not go looking around from store to store when you can see a much larger selection online anyway. This way you can pick the handbag that best suits your needs as well as your personal taste much more quickly and efficiently.

Layering Fashion

Tanks and Camis Rock in Layers

If you want to layer your tank underneath a layer, choose a thin-gauge tank. Guys and gals can wear a thin tank well under most anything, especially button-downs and polos. Girls, keep an eye on the girls while wearing a super thin tank (monitor your buttons occasionally to avoid unwanted overexposure.) And you may want to choose a heavier-weight over layer. If you are particularly trendy, gals you can layer your tank or cami over a t-shirt (long or short sleeved.)

Start at the Bottom (for gals only please)
Let’s forget about layering our tops for just a moment. You want to be the coolest of cool and you already are queen at layering technique? So let’s start with the bottoms then. Choose some slick little leggings to wear underneath belted shorts or an itty-bitty miniskirt. Sounds perfect for that trip to the amusement park or out for pizza. Don’t forget your vintage t-shirt and comfy ballets!

For Ultimate Appeal Layer a Sweater Vest

There’s something about geeky gals and guys! The geeks have it when it comes to the sweater vest. Summer-weight sweater vests can be a cool layering item for the season. Layer your sweater vest over a dressy shirt or cool t-shirt for a crisp, classy and casual look. Triple layer with a t-shirt, shirt and vest on cooler days. Avoid looking overly particular and preppy by keeping your cuffs unbuttoned or maybe rolled-up, and unbutton any buttons at your collar.

Play with your Polos

Layer under your polo or layer over your polo? Which do you prefer? Over the sportier, bolder polo a sport coat, jacket or blazer with a minimalist print or fabric pattern is best. Over a classic polo, you can get a bit more exotic with the design in your topper. Under your polo, the sky’s the limit. We like to see color peeking out at the color, and not necessarily perfectly matching color. Keep the under t-shirt sleek and thin. Go for long or short sleeves. You are the stuff!

Kick it up a Notch: Shrugs, Cardigans and Sweaters

Dress things up a bit with layers under your shrug, cardigan or sweater for more formal occasions. Class, family events, dates, job hunting might be ideal for this layering style. Pick your pleasure and layer under it a more classic and tailored undershirt. Here it is usually best to keep your collar and cuffs under control and in place for a clean-cut, classic appearance. Gals, sound a bit to stuffy for your taste? Try layering a shrug, or pseudo-cardigan over-top a cool t-shirt or sexy camisole. Guys, pick a funny t-shirt (or an intellectual one) here at OldCrappyTee.com and place it under a sweet cardigan and be the receiver of many compliments.

Gray Hair

The evolutionary imperative selected dark hair without a single gray strand in it because gray hair subliminally signalled “old age.”

However, within an urban environment, gray hair could also translate as “money” and thus could appeal to the nurturing instincts of young females of child-bearing age.

Looking at the matter from Edward Wilson’s “Sociobiology” perspective, gray hair put the young females in a bind by broadcasting two conflicting signals simultaneously — “damaged genes” and “wealthy protector.”

These days, in this age of international terrorism, nuclear proliferation, outsourcing, downsizing, bird-flu and global warming, perhaps the “nurturing” aspect of gray hair is winning the subliminal argument.

Here is Taylor Hicks, the winner of the fifth round of American Idol contest, and his prematurely gray hair.

Did you know that a total of 60 million viewers voted for him? That also means 60 million votes for gray hair, hurray! It’s in for sure.

And then there’s Anderson Cooper of CNN, a very energetic and serious young (38yrs) professional with a “nurturing” signal.

There are a lot of brainy creative women who for quite some time showed up in public with prominent gray hair as well. Writer Susan Sontag, for example. Or the singer Emmylou Harris, 59. It did not hurt their career one tiny bit.

Best Shoes for Any Time and Place

1. Comfy and Sporty: Rubber Shoes

Rubber shoes are the best type of shoes to keep your feet safe, warm and clean anytime and anywhere.

  • Physical Education classes require students to wear rubber shoes because the composition of these shoes is softer and more flexible, which will prevent possible injuries from any physical activity, or unexpected situations.
  • For manual car drivers (especially for women), I recommend using rubber shoes while driving because it lessens, or prevents, pain and cramps in the muscle feet. Flat and doll shoes usually have thinner soles compared to rubber shoes which make it painful for the feet if overused.
  • More challenging physical activities and sports that demand a lot of running, walking, jumping or climbing require the use of rubber shoes. The dirt, damage and hurt which might be caused by travelling on rocky, rough and muddy roads is also prevented using these.

Make sure that you pair up rubber shoes with clothes that won’t make you look too rugged but not too sporty (if you don’t need a sporty look).

2. Skate Shoes

Skate shoes somehow look like the usual rubber shoes, but their bodies and soles may differ. They usually have plain bodies with minimal designs; running shoes have more texture, designs and color and are foamy. Skate shoes soles are usually flat; running shoes soles are more rubbery with hump designs or spikes, making them ideal for some sports.

  • Wearing these is a safe decision for any event which is not formal and not just for skateboarding.
  • They can be paired with dresses, pants, shorts and skirts.

Some skate shoes have thick soles which make them helpful if you want to add height.

3. Elegant and Girly: Ballet Flats or Closed Doll Shoes

These can be matched with skirt, pants, shorts or dresses. Their comfort differs depending on the material used and composition.

Some ballet flats are made of soft material. It’s actually a safe partner for any kind of attire but not much for boyish looks. However, if you’re wearing these kind of flat shoes, and it rains hard you’ll have cold and wet feet, which is very uncomfortable.

Some are made of harder and tougher material, which may have metal designs on top. You can wear this kind if you do not want to look too formal but at the same time not too informal.

They look more elegant and they can be an alternative for high heels (if wearing high heels aren’t compulsory at all).

Traditional Japanese Sandals

The variety of sandal types today attests to man’s mastery over sandal making and the use he has found in the item. In the following sections of this article, we will discuss some of the most popular sandal types in the world. Most of the types mentioned here will only be discussed in brief since we will try to focus on the types of sandals traditional to Japanese culture alone.

espadrille – is a type of sandal characterized by the rope sole or rubber sole with a cloth covering for its upper section.

flip-flop – is Japanese in origin and is characterized by being backless. This sandal is held on the foot by means of a thong between the second toe and the big toe.

Gladiator- named after the sandals worn by gladiators of the Roman arenas, straps that are fastened to the flat sole to hold the foot in place characterizes this sandal.

huarache or huaraches – is a Mexican sandal with flat heels and woven leather thongs for straps.

scuffer – is usually worn as playshoes among children and as sportshoe among adults. Scuffers are frequently made out of lightweight materials and are characterized for their sturdy sole.

shoe – is a footwear that is patterned to fit the foot. Usually, the upper is made of leather, plastic or rubber and the sole is made out of much heavier and sturdier material.

talaria – is frequently mentioned in most Roman myths. This is a winged sandal worn by Hermes, a Roman god.

Zori or pusher – originally a Japanese, this is a sandal made of rubber sole and two straps that are held on either side which meets at the upper part between the big toe and the second finger.

Among these general types of sandals, the most popular types are the zori, the huarache and the gladiator.

Japanese sandals

The three of the basic Japanese sandals are the geta, tatami and the zori. Geta sandals are more commonly known among Americans due to the popularity of Geisha women images. There are varieties of geta sandals but two of the best-known are the vinyl and the wooden. The latter is worn during ordinary days while the vinyl geta is worn on occasion. Geta is named as such because of the sound (click clack) they produce when being walked.

The tatami sandals on the other hand are included in the casual category. These are typically worn for normal days and daily wear. The term tatami was derived from the Japanese word for straw. The tatami sandals are crafted from tatami, the same material used in making the mat flooring for traditional Japanese houses. Traditionally, the thong either comes in black or red velvet.
